The Nativity of our Lord

December 25

God sent his only-begotten Son to save the human race. When the ninth month had come after the archangel Gabriel appeared to the Theotokos, a decree came from Caesar Augustus that all people in the Roman Emperor be taxed. As such, everyone had to go to his own town to be inscribed, so Joseph and Mary headed for the city of David. Arriving, they found that the town was packed and found shelter in a cave used to keep sheep. It was in this cave that Mary gave birth to Christ without pain, as He was conceived without sin of the Holy Spirit and not of man. Joseph and Mary worshipped him as the Savior, and shepherds and angels sang his praise as well. Wise men from the East arrived bearing gifts and knelt before him as King of kings. In this way, Christ arrived as foretold: of the most holy Virgin, in the city of Bethlehem, of the lineage of David at the time when there was no longer a king of the tribe of Judah in Jerusalem.

Finally He appeared, the Lord of the world and the King of kings, to perform the work of the salvation of mankind that could not be performed by His servants. May His be eternal glory and praise!
